Privacy Policy

SimplyStudy (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates simplystudy.net and related apps. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

1. Information we collect

Account information

If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and a hashed password. We use this to authenticate you and keep you signed in.

Study progress

When you are signed in, we sync certain progress data (such as XP, streak, and last study date) to our servers so you can continue across sessions. Some content — including items saved to your library — may remain stored primarily on your device unless cloud sync is enabled.

AI requests

When you use AI features (lessons, Ask AI, games, AI Coach, My Material, and similar), the text you submit is sent to our API and processed by third-party AI providers (such as OpenRouter and Cloudflare Workers AI) to generate a response. Do not submit sensitive personal data you would not want processed for this purpose.

Guest usage

If you use SimplyStudy without an account, we may associate daily usage limits with your IP address (for example, guest:<IP>) to prevent abuse.

Payment information

Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; Stripe handles payment details according to its own privacy policy.

Feedback

If you send feedback through the app, we store your message (and your account email if you are signed in) so we can respond or improve the service.

2. Local storage on your device

The app uses localStorage and sessionStorage in your browser to store preferences (language, theme), your sign-in token, cached AI responses, chat history, and similar data. You can clear this data through your browser settings.

We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies at this time.

3. How we use your information

• To provide and improve SimplyStudy’s learning features
• To enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse
• To process Premium subscriptions
• To respond to support or feedback messages
• To comply with legal obligations

Lawful basis (EEA/UK users): We process account and service data to perform our contract with you (providing the app). We process usage and security data based on our legitimate interest in operating a safe, reliable service.

4. Sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run SimplyStudy (hosting, AI inference, email delivery, payments) and only as needed to provide the service.

5. Data retention

We keep account and progress data while your account is active. If you request deletion, we will remove or anonymize your personal data from our servers within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records for legal, security, or billing purposes.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. You can update your display name in the app.

Account deletion: Signed-in users can delete their account from Profile → Delete account (password required). This removes your account and associated server data. Local browser data on your device is also cleared.

7. Children

SimplyStudy is intended for learners generally aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us so we can delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and server-side access controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

9. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own (including the United States and the European Union) through our infrastructure and AI providers. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards where required by law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we add features or change how data is handled. We will update the effective date at the top. Continued use of SimplyStudy after changes means you accept the updated policy.
